In the beginning, I had no idea what a chiropractor was, or what chiropractors did. My knowledge was greatly enhanced when I hurt my back in a high school football game. It was near the end of the second quarter when I made a sideline tackle on the opposing wide receiver. When I went to get up, I fell flat on my face. I could not lift my arms or turn my head without excruciating pain. On the sidelines for the rest of the game, I felt helpless. Over the weekend I was recommended high-strength pain medication and rest. The next Monday at school, I could not lift anything heavier than a pencil and a sheet of paper. With severely decreased motion in both my neck and shoulders, I was extremely scared of what was happening to my body. My father picked me up from school and took me straight to the chiropractor. There, I received a detailed evaluation, x-rays, and reassurance that everything would be alright. After my first treatment, I had regained a significant amount of motion in both my neck and shoulders. With appropriate treatment and exercises, I was able to overcome my injury and play in the Friday night playoff game! Through this experience I was convinced that I was to become a chiropractor, and help individuals with their injuries.

I began my chiropractic education with my pre-chiropractic requirements at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. I studied pre-professional courses with an emphasis on basic science courses such as inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, anatomy and physiology.

I was accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. During my four years of studies at Palmer, courses included anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, diagnosis, chiropractic technique, and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic. I also spent free time going to seminars to become certified in different soft tissue treatments and evaluation.

My practice philosophy is to help patients recover quickly from their injuries, and use lifestyle training strategies to maximize health performance.

Dr. Tony Asks some important questions of interest to Evanston residents - Chiropractor Evanston Dr. Tony Asks...

Why does chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works because your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body, controls and regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. A chiropractor locates and reduces areas of nervous system compromise (usually along the spine) so your capacity to heal is restored. Chiropractic works by helping your body work as it was designed.
If you have a fever, are you sick or healthy?
Chiropractors love asking this question because it gets to the root of the chiropractic difference. Turns out fevers, vomiting, coughing and even sneezing are all healthy responses. It means your body is working correctly. Taking medications to suppress these natural processes can actually prolong your recovery.
