Cupping in Evanston IL

Chiropractic Evanston IL Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine that has been around for thousands of years. Our practitioners at our clinic in Evanston IL use it as an adjunctive therapy alongside chiropractic to speed up the healing process. While most soft tissue techniques use downward pressure to alleviate muscle tension- commonly known as knots, cupping uses suction to pull tissues up.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients experience some relief on the first visit. Depending on the severity and type of injury you can expect to see your provider 4-6 additional times.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

Adding cupping to your chiropractic treatment is generally a quick process. Your provider will choose from a variety of different-sized cups that they will attach to your myofascial tissue using gentle suction with a handheld applicator. Before the cups are attached they may apply lotion or cream to your skin to be able to glide the cups around a specific area. You may feel slight pulling or tugging around the cups as they are attached but there should not be any pain. Your provider will let you know of any at-home treatments that need to be done and you can resume normal daily activities unless your injury prevents you from doing so.

What About Marks Left After Cupping Treatment?

The most common side effect of cupping is the rings that it may leave on the body after treatment. Normally they are not painful and it is important to note that they are not in fact bruises. They are marks caused by stagnant blood, toxins, and other fluids being suctioned up toward the surface. The discoloration can vary in intensity and can last anywhere from a couple of days to a week. As you progress through your treatments you should notice a visible difference in the marks as they should lighten as the old fluids are moved and flushed out of the injured area.
